7 Must Have Songs on Your New Year's Eve Playlist

People Celebrating New Years Eve

It’s hard to believe that 2017 is coming to a close. Planning the perfect playlist for a New Year’s Eve gathering can be tough when thinking about everyone’s musical interests. While the first song that comes to your mind may be “Auld Lang Syne,” it’s time to think of more uplifting songs to play at your party. Here are a few suggestions.

1. “New Year’s Day” by U2

One of the band’s most popular songs, it became one of their first music videos to be rotated on MTV. While it was originally meant to be a love song from lead singer Bono to his wife, it became inspired by Poland’s political landscape during the Cold War.

2. “Despacito” Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee & Justin Bieber

This is one of the most popular songs of 2017, and is great to dance in 2018. Put this on to get the party started!

3. “1999” by Prince & The Revolution

Need a classic to put into your playlist? Ring in the New Year with this tune, which actually did re-enter the Billboard chart twice: once in 1998 before the New Year, and after Prince passed away in 2016.

4. “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” by Shawn Mendes

Another hit from this past year, this is perfect for those hoping 2018 will be the best year yet.

5. “Next Year” by Foo Fighters

If 2017 hasn’t been a great year for you or your friends, this may be a good song to include. For those of you who were a fan of the sitcom “Ed” in the early 2000s, you may recognize this as the theme song from that show.

6. “Imagine” by John Lennon

This song plays every year as the ball begins to drop in New York City’s Times Square. Sync this up when there’s about two minutes left until the clock strikes midnight to get the full effect.

7. “Happy New Year” by ABBA

This song from ABBA is a slower one, but sums up New Year’s Eve and Day overall. This is great to play as you’re getting ready to wind the party down.
